Defining the Role of the e-Social Scientist

back to programme Back to Programme

Paul Tennent (University of Nottingham)

This paper explores the potential role of the 'e-social scientist'. The field of e-social science is typically split between computing scientists and social scientists, however as this field matures, we are already beginning to see a new type of researcher: the eponymous e-social scientist. This paper will discuss some examples of tasks which are not suited to either the pure computer scientist or the pure social scientist and look at how we as a research community can look to fill the spaces opened by a changing approach to social science, particularly with regard to the new types of data and data representation emerging from within the e-social science field.
