Research

1. Studies of Research and Analytic Practice

Within this strand we are seeking to understand how researchers and practitioners analyse video and related data and how this can be supported by MiMeG software. Specific activities here are:

Undertaking qualitative studies of current practice in various fields of video-based research (in both research and practitioner communities) Developing requirements for systems to support remote working with video and associated data forms Evaluating MiMeG tools in use

2. Technical Research and Development

We are developing tools to facilitate the analysis of video data, using the knowledge gained from the studies in strand one. Our activities here include:

Building interfaces and infrastructures for collaborative research, using physical interfaces and configurations to support digital annotation and discussion of mixed media data

Developing tracking systems to capture and meaningfully represent human gesture and movement

Creating tools to record, store and retrieve analytic annotations and relate them to mixed media data

3. Dissemination and Capacity Building

We would like the MiMeG tools to be utilised more widely in a range of social science settings to understand further the nature of video data analysis and develop the tools to incorporate changing needs, but also to increase uptake of e-Research tools and awareness of e-social science generally. Objectives for this strand are:

Ensuring that social scientists are introduced to MiMeG developments through publications, presentations and demonstrations

Providing technical support for the adoption of the software by a number of research teams

Working with others to promote understanding and use of e-Research tools and technologies more generally
